Truth is I never really know what to say. I'm never sure what is happening anymore. I think we decided we would just get through school and then see where we were and where we could get jobs.

I will say however (keep in mind that no one should get excited) that I have been thinking lately a lot about New York. I think it would still be a great idea. I mean we both have friends there. It's far from my family, but I know I'll create my own family of friends there and that is kind of exciting.

I still have no idea what I want to do business wise after getting my degree, so i know I really need to get to figuring that out. This all depends on whether or not I can get a job there. Jobs aren't easy to come by anyways, so I need to get busy. The best I can do now is to focus on my school and sooner rather than lately get a job in an office somewhere and then hopefully next summer get an internship somewhere. I just need to get busy on figuring out a direction I want to head in.

I made a decision, finally

Ok, so I decided that I might as well update you guys on what's going on with the Carthage scholarship and all that. I really have been postponing writing this post because well, the decision that I took has made me kind of sad. =( Anyways, I decided that I wouldn't go compete for the full tuition scholarship at Carthage and I'm pretty bummed out about it. Why? Well, honestly because I really think that I could've gotten it if I went and gave my all in it. But, of course, life has something else planned for me and I decided not to go compete.

What happened was that I started thinking, "How am I going to pay for an apartment if I do get the scholarship?" The thing is that if I do get the scholarship, it's only going to cover tuition and it's not going to cover my housing or anything like that. So, I brainstormed and thought of ways that I could pay rent if I were to have gotten the scholarship and well... first of all, I wouldn't be able to stay at the dorms because I'm over 25 so, I would have to get an apartment outside of school. And, that totally sucks. It really, really does. I mean, I would have to pay for an apartment and I don't know how I would pay for it unless I got a student loan to cover the costs of an apartment. So, the question is... if I got the scholarship, would I have been able to get a student loan?

The answer to that question is pretty much the reason why I decided not to go to Carthage and compete for the full tuition scholarship. I don't really know if I would be able to get a student loan to cover the rent of an apartment because well, to be honest... I have really bad credit and that sucks. There's no way that I'd be able to get a loan with the credit that I have and then I wouldn't be able to go take advantage of the full tuition scholarship. So, why not let a student that would probably be able to take full advantage of the scholarship and would be able to go to Carthage get that scholarship instead? I know, I know... I'm really thoughtful.

Also, my entire family was telling me that I shouldn't go and that it would be really horrible to have to take out loans to pay for an apartment and that I don't have money and that I would be all alone in a state where I know no one. I mean, seriously, when I say my entire family, I'm talking about my entire family. My sisters and my parents, all of them! So, they were really freaking me out and they really did get the best of me.

Honestly, for the most part, I don't let people's opinions influence me on what I have to do. For the most part because I always end up doing what I think is best and what I want to do. But, this time... they really did affect my decision because they really did scare me as to how I was going to do everything.

So, right now... I don't know what the hell is going on anymore. All I know is that I will not be going to Carthage next semester and that totally sucks big time. A lot because I really, really wanted to go so badly. But, it's ok. I've made my decision and I guess I'm going to have to stick by it. There's nothing else to do.

So, I guess I don't know what is going to happen from here on. I guess I will just have to wait until Rani graduates from Carthage and I can work towards a bachelors of some sort until we decide what we're going to do from there. Hopefully we'll be able to be roommates soon because that would be awesome. I would really love it if it was in NY. Maybe Atlanta would be really nice, too. Who knows?

Whatever happens, we'll definitely keep you guys posted. I hope everyone is well. Take care of yourselves.

Until next time.

--Zul

Full tuition scholarship competition

I have some very, very good news!! I have been invited to compete at Carthage for the full tuition scholarship! Wow, this is so exciting. I can hardly believe it, really. You may be wondering how I found out, well... yesterday, I was taking a nap in the afternoon and I told myself, "When I wake up, I'll know exactly what I'm going to do with all this college business." The thing is that lately I've been stressing out about what I'm going to do with the Carthage financial aid because it's a big decision and it really is a lot of money that I don't really have.

Well, as soon as I woke up from my nap, I took a look at my Blackberry and I saw that I had received an email from my transfer advisor from Carthage. I wondered for a second about what it could be about and then when I opened the email and read it, I almost let out a scream! He was congratulating me on being one of the finalists to go compete at Carthage for the full tuition scholarship! I am so excited that I've been asked to go compete. I really am.

So, last night, I started looking for plane tickets and planning how I'm going to get to Carthage because, well... the competition is in about three weeks and I have to plan how I'm going to get to Wisconsin and where I'm going to stay and everything. I wonder how many people will go to compete for this scholarship. I hope only a few so that I have an even better chance of getting it. I would feel really confident if about ten students had been asked to go compete. I guess I'll find out once I get there on May 19th.

So, ok. Last night as I was planning everything, I was beginning to get stressed out, again! I mean, it's a lot of money. The plane, the hotel, and I found out that I might have to rent a car, too. So, all that is a lot of money to spend for two days in Wisconsin to go and see if they'll give me this scholarship. But, you know what? It might really be worth it. I mean, if I don't risk anything and I don't go, I'll definitely not get anything out of it, you know? But, if I take a risk and go, I might end up with a full tuition scholarship to Carthage! That would be a dream!!!

So, this email has made me think, "Do I really want to go to Carthage? What will I major in once I'm there? Am I really willing to spend this much money for merely a chance to get a full tuition scholarship?" All these questions have come to my mind in a matter of 24 hours! I've been going insane trying to figure out if it'll really be worth it and I always come back to the same decision: GO! Why? Well, if I don't go, I really won't know how far I'll get, you know? And, it might really be worth it if I go. I mean, a full tuition scholarship to Carthage!! That's insane.

I mean, what would really suck is if I go and then I don't get it. I think that would be the worst thing that could happen. But, then again, I'm really confident that I can get this scholarship, you know? I have a lot of faith in myself and I think that I can really wow whomever is making the decision. I mean, I really do honestly think that I have a chance at this! So, now all I have to do is make the arrangements to go to Carthage and spend the least amount of money possible. Thank God that I have some money saved up and that I can actually go to Carthage for this competition because if not, I would have no idea how I would get there or if I could even go compete.

So, I think that's it's pretty much decided that I will go compete for the full tuition scholarship at Carthage. I mean, this is pretty much what I've wanted all along, to get that full tuition scholarship. Being invited to compete is just one step closer to getting the scholarship. So, yes!

I'll definitely keep you guys posted as to what I end up doing and whatnot and I'll definitely let you guys know if I do get the scholarship and everything that goes on at Carthage for the two days that I'm there. This is so exciting!!

Ok, I'm going to leave you guys with that. I hope everyone is well and I will write back later to let you guys know what happens.

Bye!

--Zul

Financial aid letter

I am so excited right now. You may be asking yourself, "Why is she so excited?" Well, let me tell you all about it! For the past week or so I had been waiting for my financial aid letter from Carthage. I was just waiting and waiting and I didn't know what was going on. I thought I might never get it. So, I asked Rani if she knew anything and she told me that she had received hers a couple of days before. That's when I really started freaking out because I didn't know if I would ever get mine.

But, I got it yesterday. When I went to check the mail, I saw the letter from Carthage and I thought it might be something that had to do with the full tuition scholarship because it didn't look like the financial aid package letter that they had sent me last year. This one was sent to me in a regular envelope. But, when I opened it, it was my financial aid letter and I was happy. I seriously was beginning to think that they had forgotten about me.

So, when I first looked at the letter, I didn't know what to think. I mean, it looked like they had given me a lot of financial aid but, I just didn't know what to think of it. Once I looked at everything they had given me, I immediately started thinking. And, guess what? I might actually be able to go to Carthage even if they don't give me the full tuition scholarship!!! I really might be able to go. I mean, I would definitely end up with some loans after college but, doesn't every student end up with loans after college? I mean, I know that if I end up going to a public school it'd be less loans but, I really want to go to Carthage and have the whole college experience away from home.

I don't know yet what I'm going to do but I was talking to Rani as I was looking over my financial aid and I told her how much I'd be getting and she agrees... it is a pretty good financial aid package! So, I just seriously have to think about what I'm going to do because I truly do want to go to Carthage and even though I don't really want to end up with loans after college, I think it would be great to be able to go to school at Carthage. It would just be really, really nice, I think.

So, of course one thing that I'd have to worry about is where I'm going to live because once you're over 25, you can't stay at the dorms. Bummer! But, I guess it's a good thing that Rani is considering rooming with me at an apartment outside of college. There are some really nice ones near Carthage and well, at least she's thinking about it. It would be cheaper for her to stay at one of the apartments with me but, she told me that it really does depend on whether she can get her license and a car or whatnot but, I did tell her that she doesn't have to worry about that because I'd be taking my car and we can just schedule classes at around the same time. But, who knows how that might work and maybe it would be better if she had her car because I don't know if she'd feel comfortable driving my car or whatever. Let's see.

I do really hope that I can go to Carthage and if I do, I really do hope that Rani can be my roommate. It would just be so cool and awesome, I think. Let's see what happens.

On other news, I'm still waiting to hear back about that full tuition scholarship to Carthage and waiting around to see if I do get invited to compete for the scholarship. It would be nice to get invited to compete but, I hope that if I'm not going to get it that I don't get invited at all. I just don't want to waste money in going all the way to Wisconsin if I'm not going to get it. I mean, I could save up that money for when and if I do end up going to Carthage next semester. And so far... it looks like I might be able to go. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Ok, that'll be all for now. I'll keep you guys posted on whatever happens with the scholarship and with my decision to go to Carthage. Obviously, Hofstra is out of the picture right now because I'm just so excited about being able to go to Carthage. So, let's hope that everything works out.

Until next time!

--Zul

Quick update

OMG, Rani and I have been missing! Yes, we have been kind of away from it all. Well, this is a quick update that I'm going to write and I'm going to make sure that I tell Rani that we have to start writing in this blog again. I mean, I think we still have in mind that we want to become roommates somewhere but, it's just kind of been put on hold with Rani being in Carthage and me not knowing what I want to do.

Last semester I decided to defer enrollment to Carthage for one year and the year is almost up. Wow, I can't believe that Rani has been at Carthage for one whole year but, yes... it is true. I have to start working towards something and I think that I've decided that I want to go to Carthage but, I'm just somewhat afraid because I don't know how I'm going to pay for it. I mean, Carthage is expensive, let me tell you.

What I did was I applied for a full tuition scholarship and I hope that I get it because without that scholarship, I pretty much won't be able to go to Carthage. I would just need to cover the living expenses and I think that I can manage that but only if I get the full tuition scholarship. I hope that I do, honestly... because if not, I'm going to have to move on to plan two and I have no plan two yet, so, I would pretty much have to improvise. Ohh, well. Let's see what happens. I'll keep you guys posted.

Anyways, that'll be all for now but don't think that we've forgotten about this blog. It's just that things have pretty much been put on hold for a bit.

I hope everyone is well.

--Zul

Lost

Where have Rani and I been?

--Zul

Soon

I know, I know I need to update everyone on everything. We had so much fun, seriously. We went to Carthage and I liked it. It was way smaller than I thought it would be, but... I liked it. Then, when I came back home on Friday after a crazyyyy day (Friday was insane travelling and everything) - on Saturday was my cousin's wedding and on Sunday I had to work at a Latin Expo.

I gotta say that I love my job, I really do. That is the reason why I'm most likely not going to end up at Carthage: I just love my job and it's going to be a great opportunity for me to meet a lot of people and do a lot of good things for myself. Hofstra is still in the run because I can live close enough to both work and Hofstra where I can just travel for an hour to work or an hour for school or whatever and it'll work. I mean, at least that's what I'm thinking. I don't know how it would play out, though.

But, that's what's been happening. I'm sure Rani will post something soon.

I hope everyone is well and I will talk to you guys later.

Bye.

--Zul

I got a job!

I got a job today. So, I'm really excited about it.

Tomorrow I have to go to Hofstra University for a transfer open house but I don't know if I'll go because, since I have this job... I might have to stay in Connecticut and... I guess that's not a bad thing. I mean, I'll see what Rani thinks but, I'm definitely going to take advantage of this job opportunity. So, I might end up staying in Connecticut for a while.

Anyways, I just wanted to let you guys know that I got a job, and that it's a really good job and that I love my life right now. I figured everything was set (well as set as it can be with us changing our minds all the time), but then I received the packet from Carthage College in the mail. It just looked so nice and it's a small college which is a big selling point from me. I was kinda nervous telling Blu, but she seemed excited for me and we decided it was probably for the best since it would be easier for us to relocate to a city with degrees.

So, I went and saw and applied. What's funny is that Blu actually submitted her application before I did. I just kept talking about Carthage and the thought occurred to me that it would be cool if she went, but figured it wouldn't interest her since she liked it where she was. It was just so nice there and the more I talked about it the more interested she became so we spent the whole night looking at the school's website and talking about it. She ended up applying. The next day I applied. Now we are waiting.

I know that she might not like it when she sees it, I doubt it, but its possible. Or there might be a problem or something and she can't go. Or maybe we just aren't compatible as roommates (highly unlikely but we like to look at every angle). I mean worst case scenario is that she comes out and we go to Carthage overnight and she doesn't like it and we don't want to be roommates. I mean it's good we figure it out now and you know what? That isn't gonna stop us from being friends and having hilarious conversations over the internet. It's better this way so we know. Honestly, I believe that we will be fine together and she will like it there, but if she doesn't then she doesn't and we look ahead to when we both have our degrees.

Personally I can't wait till next month when she comes. I mean I'm usually not good when anyone comes over cause I never know what to do, but I don't think that will be a problem this time. I'm pretty sure we can just do the things we do over skype together. I foresee us sitting at the computer laughing at stupid YouTube videos and analyzing peoples tweets, and laughing at ridiculous things that our family member have done. I also hope there is enough snow that we can sled down our hill once or twice (if I can talk her into it lol), but not a whole bunch to where she wont want to move over here for school.

Okay, as I am writing this I am talking to Blu on a messenger and we just figured out that tomorrow will be exactly three weeks until she comes here! So exciting! I hope she is not disappointed in anything with her visit cause it would be awesome to room together at college. I just know that above everything I want her to do what is right for her. If Hofstra would be better for her then I want her to go there. She is my friend and I love her and I need her to be happy for me to be. Whatever happens I know that we will continue to be friends and have hilarious times together.

-rani

P.S. They were singing "Empire State of Mind" or whatever that song is called and they were all like, "Let's hear it for New York, New York..." I almost died when someone else said, "Ohh, that's the remix." Hahahaha. I immediately thought of P. Diddy and I almost died. It was hilarious. But, I got happy about the prospect of being in New York and about when it will finally take place.

So, Rani and I have been talking lately that we should let you guys in on what is going on. I guess I should let you guys know because it's only fair that you guys know.

About a month and a half ago, Rani got a package from a college in the mail. She didn't request it but she looked through it. At the moment, she's in a college where she does all her classes online, which is cool because she could move to New York and just do her classes online still. But, as Rani was looking through the papers of the college, she began to get excited and stuff.

So, she decided to go visit the college and she decided to apply. She mentioned it to me before she went to visit the school and I was like, "That's great!" So, it was no surprise when she told me that she thought she would apply. This obviously puts our plans for New York/Connecticut or wherever back about two or three years. But, in the end it is so much better because by that time Rani and I will both have a college degree. And, let's be honest, it is much easier to make it in the city with a job when one has a college degree.

Well, when Rani got back from Carthage College she told me all about how it went. I got really excited for her and well, I decided I would check it out. It was hilarious because Rani and I were on Skype and she kept trying to convince me to apply to Carthage. Well, honestly... I started thinking about applying to colleges because I have been at the community college level for quite some time and it is time for me to be at an university. So, I ended up applying to Carthage with Rani.

I mean, I also looked at Hofstra University in New York because, well, they have some really good majors and such. And it would be nice to be in New York. I had applied to Hofstra back when I graduated high school in 2001 and I got accepted so, I don't see how I couldn't get accepted now that I have some college credits and a pretty good GPA at that.

So, I applied at Hofstra and at Carthage and I'm really excited about both of them. In mid-March, I'm going to go visit Hofstra for the day and, ohh... the week after that, during Spring Break... I'm going to go visit Rani and we're going to go stay over one night at Carthage College. If we do end up going to Carthage, we are going to be roommates, duh!

So, that's that.

What else do I need to mention? Ohh, yes... I also applied for re-admission to the University of Massachusetts in Boston because they might finally give me my apartment from public housing. And, if they do... then, I will have to make some decisions about whether I will take the apartment or just go to these other schools or whatever. I don't know yet.

Either way, I'm excited.

Rani will tell you guys more information later.

Until next time,
--Zul

Things

There are some things that Rani and I have to tell you guys about. So, Los Angeles came up somehow and well... that was that. We thought about Los Angeles for a bit and then came back to the idea that we should do the New York thing. We really do both want to do New York. I mean, the fact that we had that conversation pretty much got me super excited about the whole New York thing. So, I think we're done making other city-decisions for now and we're just going to focus on New York. Maybe later we'll try another city, who knows? But, for now... Rani will be coming to Connecticut sometime after she finishes her first semester. (Did we mention that? Did we mention that I'm going to ask my mother if Rani can move in before we end up getting an apartment in CT before NY. Well, yeah...)

So, after Rani comes over to Connecticut we're going to see if we can either go straight to New York or if we'll need to get an apartment here in Connecticut first and then move to New York. Hopefully it will all turn out.

On the job front, well... I had a second interview with the post office last week, I don't know if I had mentioned that yet. I think it went pretty well, even though the lady was somewhat mean. I think it'd be great working for the post office. Let's see what happens. She said they would get back at me after "next Friday" (being today). So, hopefully I'll be hearing back from them. If I don't get this job with them, I'll keep trying to get another position with them. It'll be perfect for New York.

I also had a job interview at this place called Naamco. They sell pools and other things. It was yesterday and I think it went well. He said he'll be making his decision sometime in the next three weeks. Blech. I'll have to wait, I guess.

What else? Ohh, school started yesterday. I have an ok schedule, I guess. I have all night classes, which leaves me time during the day to get a job. I also don't have classes on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays so... I could get a job then as well.

Ok, I must go. I gotta go get my laundry downstairs. I really miss having the washer/dryer in the house. Ohh, well. At least I'm in Connecticut and not in North Carolina. Yayyy!

Bye.

--Zul

PS I changed my major from that certificate to an Associates. It's kind of a long story and I will tell you guys later. I need to put the laundry in the dryer.

Decisions, decisions

Rani pretty much mentioned everything that has been going on. She did an awesome job explaining pretty much everything. Last night we were looking at apartments and such while we were on a skype conversation and Rani came across an apartment that she showed me because the layout was perfect for a roommate scenario (the rooms were the same size and there were two bathrooms, the same). She said it might be too expensive for what we were looking for but then it hit us... why not Hartford instead of New York? I mean, that place is dead-smack in downtown and it's just beautiful. Even though we found a place in New York for just about the same price, this was not in downtown. It's about the same square footage but, I mean... this place is nice, trust me.

Now about school, I've decided that I'm just going to go MCC, do my certificate for Office Support Specialist and then continue on with my Associates. Then I plan to transfer to UCONN, which is not that far from here. It's about 30 minutes away. I found that they have a degree in Latin American Studies and one in Spanish and that they offer Latin American Literature courses so, that's always good. I mean, they don't really have a degree as perfect as NYU because NYU was more Caribbean and Spain or whatnot but, I mean... it's ok. A degree is a degree. Also, they have an individualized major degree which would be perfect because I could combine the Latin American Studies and the Spanish degree and whichever other courses and make the perfect degree.

I think things are just going well in the decision-making department with Rani and I. I'm really glad about the decisions we have been making lately. I am definitely in love with the idea of living in Harford because, trust me, this place is nice.

Other than that, everything is well. I hope everyone is doing ok. Rani and I will keep you guys updated if we make any more decisions, etc.

Take care of yourselves.

Peace.

--Zul

Uncertain about the Present, but Hopeful About the Future

Like Blu, I put in an application for a job. It was at a school in town as a Library Assistant. I've worked with kids before and worked in a library, so I figured I had a shot. However, tomorrow being the start date and having heard nothing about the job, I figure it's not looking too good. I was really hoping for it. It's something I know I can do and it was part time. I really need to have a job so I can be saving up money for the move.

Plans have changed yet again regarding our move to the city. You see by "the city" it really doesn't mean New York anymore. I still like the idea of going there and who knows? Maybe we will end up there. For now though, the city means Hartford, CT. Blu is already living there as you know and from the sounds of it she is liking it. Even though I kinda liked the sounds of staying there, we had already made these plans for somewhere else. The more I thought about it though and talked it out with Blu, I figure I'd like living htere well enough. It isn't that far to NY. We could go spend the day there if we wanted to.

Last night I actually got very excited about the whole CT move. You see when Blu and I make plans to move somewhere, it usually entails hours of conversation via skype, calculators, hopes, and many, many website visits. We have been looking for apartments there since we decided we were going to move there first, before new york. We found some prospects. These were more towards Manchester and that area. I kinda ike the idea more about living in Hartford. Of course its a little hard to find an affordable apartment in downtown Hartford. So what do you do? You find the perfect apartment, say screw the price, and make plans to find good jobs, because you MUST live there. After finding this place, I must admit, I am actually very excited about moving to CT. Almost, I dare to say, even more excited than I was to move to NY.

I am not sure about when I am actually going to move there. It was brought up that after I finish this semster (because I don't want to move during one) I could just move there, so we could start looking for apartments and getting to know the area and everything. Nothing is concrete about that part of the plan. I just have to work on getting this semester complete, which means less procrastination. Easier said than done.

Okay I will leave off here. I must attempt to accomplish something school-wise today. I have been failing at it for the past 3 days.

Here's to the future!

-rani

That interview was weird and the lady was rude

The interview? You have no idea. So, about a week ago I decided to check the email I give out when I fill out job applications, etc. Thank God I decided to do that because if I didn't, I wouldn't have found out that I had a job "interview" set up for two days after I read that. It was more like a meeting with the person who would be the boss, etc. She wanted to meet the people who had applied so that she could recommend to a certified "interviewer" as to whom to interview. And, well... I was just sooo happy that I got that email. I was so ready for that job interview. I got all pretty. I did my make up and everything, you don't even know. I was ready. I got there early and asked very good questions and I really do think I have a good shot at getting this job. Let's just pray that I do get it because I really do want it. It's with the US Postal Service and I really do want it because that's a job with the US government. I mean, I'd be doing relief work but I really do believe that once we get out of this recession they'll be looking to hire FT permanent workers and well... I'd like to make that job a permanent job. I mean, if I work for the US government, it'd be good money and I get to retire sooner. So, that's always good. I was actually thinking that I'm not even gonna do that certificate program if I get the job and I'm just going to keep going with my associates. I dunno, let's see what happens.

The good thing is that today I received a phone call from a woman calling from the USPS asking me if I could come in for an interview tomorrow at 1PM. I was like, "OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH, OMYGOSH!" So, of course I said yes. I am so very happy that I get this opportunity and I hope and pray to God that I get this job. I will let you guys know what happens tomorrow.

That is all for now. I really, really do. It would be really nice. If it turns out that all the classes for the certificate program are full, then I can just take classes towards my associate and then take classes towards the certificate next semester. I would just love to get started with some classes, you know? I really would. If they get difficult with my financial aid that I can only use it to take classes within my major then I could just change my major for like a semester or whatever. Everything is pretty much maneagable, you know? Either way, the wait is pretty much killing me. Uggh.

I think that'll be it for now. I think Rani was going to start classes this week. She's doing online or print or something like that. It'd be nice if she wasn't procrastinating. I hope she isn't. She wants to finish her first semester before she's able to move. But, we're thinking of her moving here sometime in the summer. We had thought of June but now, I'm thinking more along the lines of August. I should tell her that. Hmm. Either way, she has more than enough time to finish her first semester by then.

Ok, I will write back as soon as I get some info from the financial aid from school. The excitement has actually come back, so that's good. Whew. I guess it all started last night when Rani and I were skyping it up and we started talking about her move over here, etc. We were talking about what we would do if things didn't really work out with housing so that she can move in with me and other things. We decided that we would just look for an apartment, like a regular non-housing one. We looked up some apartments and I think we found a really good one that was within our price range. It is actually quite close to UConn, so, that's kinda cool.

I told Rani that we might end up liking it there and since we're not that far from NY (only about 2 hours), we might want to end up staying there and with all the money we save up on rent... we can just travel a lot to NY. I don't know how I truly feel about that, but it was just a thought. I mean, we do have to keep our options open, you know?

So, I looked at UConn's majors and programs, etc... and if we do like it in CT, UConn would be a nice option. Obviously, NYU is wayyy better because they have the exact program that I want but, I guess UConn is ok. Plus, I really do want to go to NY. Like, really. We'll see what happens.

I'm really excited about Rani moving here to Connecticut. On Monday I have to do a whole lotta things and one of those things is to call the Hartford Housing Authority so that I can find out if I can add her to the list of people who can live with me. I still gotta figure out if I'm going to apply even if they tell me that she can't be in the apartment. I mean, what's the point of doing that, huh? But, I guess it really just depends on if we get jobs or not, you know? That's all it really depends on. I mean, really. I guess I'll still apply for an apartment for me and then we can figure out what to do later. That's better than not applying and then regretting it later because this way if I don't need the apartment, they can just take me off the list or whatever, I guess.

I dunno, I guess that's all I really have to say. I will update more on the situation as I get more info.

I hope you all have a great day.

--Zul

WI,CT,NY

Happy New Years!

Well, if you haven't read Blu's last post below then you really should. In it contains crucial plan changes for us. Instead of moving to NY later on in 2010, we will most likely be moving to Connecticut around then or maybe a little before. Well I should say I will be moving there, Blu moved there yesterday. But we will get an apartment there. I don't know how long we would be there before moving to NY, but i think we both see the benefits in it working out this way if it does inded turn out this way. You never really know.

One thing that is set in the plan is that i will finish my first semester by April before i do go. If its later on in autumn when we move i might do a summer semester before moving. I just don't want to be in the middle of classes, even though it is through a distance so i can do them anywhere, while moving. I did that when my family moved here to Wisconsin and i had to drop some. I can't do that this time.

SO nothing is set in stone obviously. Plans change and this one certainly has. It might change even more. At this point its very possible. I am kinda hoping for the CT thing, because it would be nice to move sooner. Although somewhat nervous because it will be the first time living away from my family, I am very anxious to move and get started on our master plan. Plus we would figure out if being roommates work. We are both sure that it will, but it is easier to move back from CT than it would be NY i think.

We are bth really excited about it, but I still don't like to get my hopes up about anything, because obviously things keep changing. Hopefully this CT part f the plan will work out, so I can start planning for that.

I've decided to start my classes on the 4th. I have a friend who is starting hers on that day, so we could keep each other in check. Of course it is my fellow procrastinator friend, but I think we will both do better about not procrastinating this semester.

AT least I am starting classes. It sucks this problem Bly is having with the college. It really does seem that colleges are more concerned with money than providing a good education to students. It would be nice if they worked better with the students. But it is another reason why moving to CT together before NY makes sense as I believe Blu said. While we will have to push NY back we would be starting the process by being roommates, Plus, CT is a whole lot closer to NY than Wisconsin.

I know I prolly repeated a lot of stuff that Blu said, so thank you for hanging in there with me if you have. It's New Years eve and I hope everyone has a great new year. This year will be very different for me if everything works out. So whether its going to be different for you or stay the same.... I hope it's at least what you want it to be.

-rani

Tomorrow I move to Connecticut, etc

Tomorrow I move to Connecticut. I am really excited that I'm going to be moving but for some reason I was a bit more excited about a week ago. Seriously. There's just been some things that happened yesterday that have gotten me a bit stressed out. I guess I should start out with some things that happened earlier last week so that I don't confuse the hell outta everybody.

So, ok. About a week ago I was skyping it up with Rani and I mentioned to her that my mom had told me that if my dad hadn't found a transfer to Connecticut that she would be moving back to North Carolina as soon as the lease on the apartment expired. So, I was pretty bummed out about that until I thought of a good thing to do. So, I told Rani about it. I was like, "I'm thinking of getting an apartment in housing in Connecticut since my income is pretty low right now." I had checked the Hartford housing authority and they're taking applications for a two-bedroom apartment. So, I was like, "Ok, so that means that they should be giving those apartments pretty soon. I'm going to call on Monday." I also told Rani that since it's a two-bedroom apartment, she could probably end up moving in with me when I get the apartment, at least if she wanted to and until we can move to New York. She said she would think about it but she had high hopes. The whole reason for getting this apartment would be that I would be able to have my own place (hopefully before my mother's lease expires, just in case she has to go back to NC) and so that Rani and I could see how it would work out with us being roommates. So, it would be a nice thing.

I called on Monday and the lady said that they were making a waiting list so to send in my application. I told Rani and I mentioned that if they're making a waiting list, then that means that I would most likely end up being on top of that list and since they have units available, I would probably get an apartment rather soon. At least that was my reasoning and I hope that it's true. So, I told the lady to send me an application which I should receive at my mother's apartment in Connecticut. I will fill it out and mail it as soon as possible.

There is only one problem that I thought about when I started thinking about public housing in Connecticut. What if they don't let Rani stay because she's not a blood relative? That would absolutely suck. I mean, I guess the worse case scenario is that I would have to get my own apartment if my mother has to move out. I mean, I guess. But, it's something that can be worked out, so I'm not worrying too much about it.

So, there were two things that absolutely pissed me off today. The first one was that I was calling all the places I had applied to and which had clearly stated online that they were hiring when I applied and about four out of the seven places I applied told me that they weren't hiring. Omygoodness, one of the places was so terrible! They not only told me that they weren't hiring, but that they were actually laying people off. I was like, "Then whyyy would you post online that you're hiring?" I got so mad. So, before applying anywhere I would call the place I would intend to apply to and they would all say they weren't hiring. So, I basically only filled out one application even though basically everywhere I looked they said they were hiring. What is going on? I'm getting ready to sue, no lie.

The only good thing that came out of calling places I had applied to was that I called Whole Foods in Glastonbury and the PBS was actually really nice. PBS is almost like the HR person. He said that I was being proactive by calling and that he would pass my name and my telephone number to the hiring manager. So, that was good. I really do hope that I get that job. My mom works at that store so it'd be really nice to work there. Plus, I used to work for the company and I really liked it. It might be a good thing to work for them because there are Whole Foods stores in NY so, I might be able to transfer. So, that's really good.

The other thing that happened today that totally pissed me off (and I mean, seriously... it pissed me off sooo much) was that I was calling school to find out everything that I needed to do in order to start school for the Spring semester and everything. I basically got all the information that I needed to get to them and I was actually going to go to the school next Tuesday to get everything ready. I actually had to call a couple of different departments of the school but, of course... financial had to be difficult and not answer the phone not ONCE out of the AT LEAST five times that I called. Not only thing, I had called them a couple of times last week and the same thing happened: no one would pick up. So, I left them a message but, of course, no one called back. So, about 30 minutes after I left that message for financial aid, I got a call from somebody from the office (I don't remember what department he was from) and he said that tomorrow is the last day to pay for tuition or my classes would be dropped. He said that since my financial hadn't come through that I could pay for classes and then get reimbursed when the financial aid DID come through. I was like, "WHAT!" So, I remember that I had logged into my financial aid profile or whatever and it said that I need to fill out some papers and send it to them. But, there was no link so that I could download the files that I needed to send them and I didn't really get anything in the mail. Great! So, that means I'm probably going to have to start in the summer. Or worse yet, in the fall. Uggh! Things are being difficult. That means that the move date to go to NY has been pushed back by a year, basically. So, that sucks. But, hopefully Rani will be able to move to Connecticut and we'll be able to at least be roommates before the whole NY thing and well, it might make the whole waiting-to-be-in-NY a whole lot easier.

I don't know, it just sucks. I'm feeling pretty mad about this right now. I don't even want to talk about it anymore. Uggh.

I'm going to sleeep now because tomorrow is a big day and I gotta wake up early to finish packing, wash some clothes that I take with me and other things. I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and that you will all have a Happy New Year.

2010 is the year of changes for me!

Let's go, 2010.

--Zul

Closer and closer

The time to move to Connecticut seems to be getting closer and closer. That makes me happy like you wouldn't even begin to understand. That means that moving to NY is getting closer and closer as well. Woo! I'm ecstatic. I hope I'll be able to find a job in Connecticut so that I can save to go to NY. I really do. I mean, it would just suck to not be able to move to NY when I want to just because I wasn't able to find a job. Effin' economy!

Anyways, I head out to Connecticut sometime in the next week or week and a half. I am excited about that, yayyy. The only problem I've been sorta having is that my car has been acting up lately, the little psycho. So, I need to get it fixed before I get to go to CT. I mean, I need my car working before I can actually go, you know? Other than that, I've been ok. I'm glad that school is finally over, yes!

Ok, I will go now. I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas.

Take care.

--Zul

Done with the semester

The last day of school was last night and I am super happy. You have no idea how excited I am that school is finally done with for this semester. Now, I can finally move to Connecticut and keep going with the whole moving-to-New-York thing. So, yeah.

The only thing that is kinda scaring me is that the same thing that happened to Rani is happening to me. I'm talking about the whole waiting-for-school stuff. I mean, I applied to that college in Connecticut and they STILL haven't gotten back to me. I mean... I've already called twice and they've "sent" the package or whatever like two times already. I'm getting impatient, seriously. To be honest, I'm not only getting impatient, I'm getting pissed. If I don't get it by Friday, I will call back... and I will use my angry voice. Lol.

Whatever. So, that's the plan. I'll wait to get accepted into Connecticut, get my certificate and then go to NY and finish my bachelor's, etc over there.

Anyways, that's be all for now.

I hope you guys are all well.

--Zul

College!

While Blu is just finishing her courses, I am finally.... FINALLY starting mine. I received my coursework in the mail this week and have ordered my textbooks. I received one today. I don't know if I've mentioned what I am studying before or not. I am studying Business Administration and my courses for this semester will be:

Math of Finance
Global Business
Leadership and Management
Music Appreciation

I am really excited. I was kind of waiting till I have all my books to start, but that feels like my terrible procrastination sneaking up, so I really just need to start on what I have. I think I'm not really believing I have my courses, because I had to go through so much to get them.

I am waiting for the letter to get sent to me stating that I am enrolled full time, so that I can get started on getting my father's GI Bill's transferred to me. Then I can pay off the loan from the school. I hope all that turns out right, because I wouldn't have enough to cover the loan myself. I just ordered a computer, which I am pretty excited about. My job ends this week, so I really do need to find another one.

That's pretty much it for now, except trying to get ready for Christmas. I am so very happy, really. Then, I'll be able to finally move to CT. Wow, I can't believe it.

So, my dad is going to try to take the closest weekend to January 1st off so that we could go to Connecticut. Not only does he want to drive me but, that day (Jan 1st) is my mom and dad's wedding anniversary. Wow, man. 27! That's crazy. That meand that next October I will turn (gulp) ...27! Omygosh. I can't believe how fast time just flies. Pretty soon, I will be dead. Like, seriously. Ok, maybe that was a bit too much. But, time does fly.

Anyways, I'm pretty tired. I think Rani may have mentioned them in her last post, but she left it up to me to tell you guys all about it. I thank her for that.

The thing is that I was offered a townhouse if I just continue paying the mortgage for the townhouse. I really think it would be great because one of my goals in life is to have a lot of real estate. But, I really do want to move to NY. It's become something that I have to do or I won't be happy. Everything is already planned for NY and things are rolling along fine... and then this. Boom! I mean, it's a good idea, but I think I have just decided that even if the person was serious... I'm not going to take it. I really do want NY to happen both for me AND for Rani. It would be great!

So, that's that. Short and sweet. Boom! Like that, decided.

Anyways, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I hope everyone had a good one. I ate way too much. Then again most of us do. I was glad that I didn't have to work today. I was very thankful for that. I do have to work tomorrow though. I don't see why. Most of the people asked for the day off so won't be there and this is the first time in several years that they don't get the day after Thanksgiving off. The concert is tomorrow too. We will go straight on after I get off work and go by the bank.

It looks like I am going to have to get a loan after all. The college doesn't do payments apparently and wants to be paid in full. I had to apply for a loan. I haven't heard back from anything yet. I only have a month before I have to send the paperwork back to the school, so it better hurry up. I am just so disappointed with everything. I mean the college could just hold off a couple of weeks they'll see where they are gonna get there money. But, no, that would be helpful to me so they can't do that. Plus I keep having to send them stuff and postage isn't exactly cheap anymore. I guess I should be thankful I will eventually get this straightened and be getting an education. I will be.... but for now I just want to vent a little. Nothing wrong with that. We all need to do it sometimes.

As for New York. Blu had some news, a new opportunity, that may greatly affect our plans. It all depends. This next year should tell us where we will end up. But, it's just that I haven't really had much to talk about so, I've not written anything.

But, tonight I guess I have some news. First of all, I am so happy that I only have three weeks left of school, just about. I can't believe I've stuck by school for this long! I'm usually quick to go ahead and drop all my classes and even though I did drop one class, it was necessary. Don't ask, it's somewhat of a long and stupid story. But, I'm still enrolled in four classes and I'm doing really well in them and that's definitely what matters. At least I think so.

On other news, I have been doing so great in my classes. I had to do a speech last night and I had to another speech last week, but I don't know the grade that I got for that yet. I also had a speech test a week prior to last week and I got 99. i don't know if I had mentioned that before.

In my other classes I am also doing well. In religion, I got a 92 on my last exam, which I took this past Monday.

Anyways, that is all for now. Next week for Thanksgiving I will be in Virginia and I'll try to write. But, if I don't get to for any reason, I hope you all have a great Thanksgiving!

--Zul

Finally

I finally was able to get an answer out of someone regarding how much I would have to pay in the beginning to the college before we could get signed up to transfer the GI Bill benefits. Well actually I didn't my father ended up calling the woman my advisor suggested we talk to to make sure the benefits covered my first semester. I'll have to pay the first payment, but I'd rather do that then the entire semester. Looks like I won't have to get a loan after all. At least not at this point. I shouldn't say I'll never have to get one, because you never really know what's going to happen.

I should hear something this week from my advisor regarding my classes and when I start them. Kinda nervous about them. I haven't been full-time in awhile and the most I've ever taken through a distance is one at a time and that was online. I am starting with print-based courses. SHe recommended that I start with online, but I want to try the print-based. Worst case scenario is that I have trouble, but then I have a year to finish the courses. I can't take the year though. I have to stay on track. We have a plan!

Looks like we are a little behind on it anyways. At least I am with the classes. I was already supposed to be doing classes right now. I also have to find another job when this one ends and I still don't really have a clue as to what that will be. I also have to hurry and learn to drive. It's going to start snowing soon. Someone at work offered to teach me, but I'm not getting my hopes up about that.

Anyways, things look like they are very clowly progressing, but any progress with this is good. Hopefully I have some more news soon. Sorry if this is getting boring, because I keep talking about the same thing : )

-rani

P.S. By the time I get home from work I don't really want to do anything, but relax which isn't very easy to do, so it takes most of my concentration. I got paid yesterday, which is good because I was starting to forget why I was going to work. I don't mind going to work or doing hard work, but standing for 8 hours is a little much for me.

Anyways, on the college front: I got the package from the college finally and sent that stuff back in after I filled it out. The only problem still is the benefits thing. I don't know what to do. I emailed yet another person to see if they have any new answers for me. They probably won't, but it was worth a try. I'll probably get an answer back from them tomorrow. It also doesn't look like I will be able to start classes until spring. I don't think I have time anymore for the rest of this year. I'd have like maybe 8 weeks if I could get started right away. It's possible, but with me filling all tired anf hurt after work I might not have the energy. Will see what this week brings with all that mess.

That's pretty much it. You see why I haven't written. Nothing real exciting. Just more ridiculousness regarding me trying to get back into college and not liking my job. It is what it is I suppose. I am looking forward to the 27th this month though. I get to go see the Cranberries in Milwaukee! Front Row Center! I really need it too.

As always, I'll write when there is some news or unless I can think of something to talk about that's pleasant and won't bore anybody to death.

Take care,

-rani

Speech, second test: check!

Yesterday before my speech class I checked my grade online for my speech test that I took last week. I decided that I would drop one of my classes which is ok because I was taking five of them. So, it's fine. I dropped accounting which is one of the ones that I have to take over since I didn't withdraw from that one a couple of semesters ago and got an F. That dropped my GPA from a 4.0 to... well, to really, really low. But, it's ok. I decided to drop it because I had been absent too many times and when I emailed my professor to ask him if he was going to drop me from the class, even though he said he wouldn't, he mentioned that my grade was at jeopardy being that I had missed out of 8 weeks of classes and equivalent of 3 weeks. So, I dropped it because I don't want to not be able to take the class over in case I do really bad on this one. Sometimes schools have a certain number of times that you can take a class over for a better grade or something. So, that's that.

I also didn't go to class this morning because... well, because I woke up about an hour ago. I was up on the phone really, really late and well, I can't do that anymore. Lol. But, other than that school is good.

I was talking to Rani the other day on Skype for like nine hours (I know, nine hours!!!) and I finally decided that I would take a certificate before working on my associates and bachelor's and whatever since with the certificate I could get a good job in New York sooner. If I would've just worked on my associates there's just a broad amount of jobs that I could get so I just decided to get a certificate and I would work on my associates once I'm in New York. Plus, this way, since the certificate takes less time to complete and I wouldn't be doing my associates 'til New York, I'll be able to move to New York sooner (2011).

Anyways, I was undecided between Paralegal and Office Support Specialist (to work as an Administrative Assistant) but I did some research and decided on Office Support Specialist being that there's just more job opportunities for that in New York. Even though Paralegals get paid much more, there are more opportunities to get a job as an Administrative Assistant in New York. Not only that, being bilingual really helps and you get paid more for being bilingual. So, that's what I decided.

So, that's that. I hope you all are having an awesome Monday.

Be well.

--Zul

About Chili's

So, just like I thought... the guy from Jos A. Bank has not called nor will he call. *Sigh* Ohh, well. I knew this. And Blockbuster? Let's not even talk about that. I don't know if I mentioned before that I changed my number and they don't have the right number now. OMG, that sucks. But, I went to Chili's a couple of nights ago and I asked the manager if they were hiring and he said that they were accepting applications and that they were going to start hiring and that the applications needed to be filled out on Mondays through Thursdays from 2PM to 5PM. So, I went yesterday and I filled out an application and the lady said she would call me. I really hope that I get this job. I really, really need it. Not only do I need to start saving up for when Rani comes to visit and for New York, but I need to pay off some debts that I have and in order to do that I need a job. This is a change from what I have posted before. I had been hired for a line position starting on November the 25th. Yesterday someone called from Swiss Colony and I got back to him today. He said there were a couple of positions open in the bakery basically doing the same thing I would have been doing with the other position just with food. It's less money an hour, but it also goes until the end of December so I'll be working longer. In the end it's more money than the line position.

I'm kinda nervous. I'm a shy person so I get nervous about new situations with new people. Also, it's been over a year since I've worked. It's the first shift, so I'll have to get up in the morning. The hours for 2nd shift are more natural to me, but the position was for first shift. You gotta do what ya gotta do!

I'm still waiting for something from the college in the mail. As for paying for it, I'll find out something Wednesday. So I'll probably post then unless I hear something different.

-rani

97!

Quick update. First of all, I am not good at saving money at all. Not at all. I am really bad at it. If I want something, no matter how much it costs, I will usually get it. So, with that being said... let me tell you what happened on Wednesday. After class and somewhat out of nowhere I go like: "I want a new phone." What? Yes, exactly. So, I head to the Best Buy and I end up getting the most expensive phone everrr: the iPhone. I mean it was just calling out my name. It ended up costing me, with the extra things I bought for it, the accessories or whatever... it cost me like $380.00, even. OMG. I was like, meh. It's worth it. PLUS, I had to cancel my Sprint contract which will sometime in 2011. So, that was that. About $580.00 for a phone because the cancellation fee for Sprint is like $200.00. So, then the next day I started thinking about it and I was like, "Man, maybe it's not worth it." I mean, all that money PLUS I end up paying an extra $35 a month for the new phone plan. At the moment my phone plan is under my dad's plan because it's just cheaper that way. Eventually, sometime in 2011 before I move to New York, I will change it so that I can have my own plan but DAMN. It's crazy. So, the next day I decided to return it and stay with Sprint instead and just get a Blackberry with Sprint. In the end I ended up saving about $340, since the phone cost me only $50, with a mail-in rebate that I got to send... plus, I saved an extra $200 because I won't have to cancel Sprint. Then the following day I bought a $200 iPod Touch which is like the iPhone except I don't have the phone service or whatnot. I mean, I'm ok with that. I can always wait to get the iPhone until 2011 when I cancel my contract with Sprint and I move to New York, you know? So, that's that. I made a good decision. All in all I saved about $250 plus an extra $35 a month. Wow. I already told Rani that when I finally decide to get either the new iPod Touch (64GB, right now I got the 8GB) or the iPhone in 2011, I would give her the 8GB iPod Touch. I mean, what else am I going to do with it? So, that's that.

Ohh, another thing. With all the changes I made with the phone and whatever... I changed my phone number to a Connecticut area code or whatever. And I totally forgot that Blockbuster has my old number. OMG. So, I called them about 30 minutes ago and the manager-on-duty told me: "Well, you're going to have to wait 'til the store manager is here; she's on vacation for two weeks." WHAT! OMG, I might not even get that job. They probably hired everybody already, I bet.

*Sigh*

Ohh, well.

It'll be until next time.

Bye.

--Zul

Grades, Blockbuster and Thanksgiving

I have some updates that pertain to New York, somewhat. At least they pertain to New York University since they have to do with school and that sort of has to do with New York, don't you think? Well, I think I may have mentioned before that I had an exam this past Wednesday for Religion class. Well, I had to make sure that I got a really good grade on it because I did very poorly on the previous exam for that class. I got a 68 on that last exam and it was really hard. So, I made sure to study extra hard for this exam and I think I did really well. I definitely got a 92 or higher, for sure. I will let you guys know about how I really did later. I'm hoping for a 92 or higher. She mentioned the first day of class that she doesn't give extra credit but the class before this past exam she said that if people did bad on it, since a lot of people had failed the first exam, she would give an extra credit paper in which we have to compare Gandhi and some other people. I don't know. Whatever, that should be easy.

On other school-related news, I got my Pre-Calculus exam back. I took it on the Thursday before I left for Connecticut and I did so well. I got a 94! I was so happy. I mean, I knew I was going to do well because it really was very easy. So, I was happy.

Also, I finally got the grade back for the speech I did for my Public Speaking class two Wednesdays ago and I got a 100 on the outline and an 88 on the actual speech. But, the good thing is that I think he gives more value to the actual outline than to the speech itself, you know? So, that's good. I have another speech that I have to do this Wednesday so, I got to start writing the outline for it. It's going to be a persuasive speech and I got to make sure I do good on it. I mean, I've done good on my speeches so far but I want at least a 90-something. Let's see what happens.

On the job front, *sigh*sigh*sigh*. I called Blockbuster and they told me something about the District Manager. I don't really know, I couldn't really understand her. I'm assuming that she meant that she has to wait until the District Manager ok's how many people she can hire. So, yeah. But, I don't know about that. Whatever. It'll be nice to get a job before moving to Connecticut but if I can't get a job until I move there, I won't stress it. So, it's cool. I secretly don't want a job this holiday season because for Thanksgiving (if I don't have a job) I might head up to Virginia to my sister's mother-in-law's house to hang out with the family. It will be fun. I've never been in the presence of my sister while she is pregnant so that should be fun. Yayyy. I mean, don't get me wrong, I still do wish I'd have a job but it'd be fun to hang out with my sister and my nephews.

Anyways, that will be all for now.

You guys take care and it will be until next time.

Bye.

--Zul

Updates

Today I got an email saying that my application file to UW-Platteville is complete, so they should be doing my transfer credit evaluation soon and then I can enroll for classes. There is a problem though. I can't get the benefits until I enroll full time and have them send a letter to me. but I need to money to enroll. I think we have all come to the conclusion that I have to get a loan to either pay for the first payment or for the entire first semester. Hopefully it's only the first payment if they have a payment plan. It all depends on when they stop billing us and wait for the benefits to kick in. This is really the only problem now. I also have to buy books and a lot of the time they can cost more than the classes.

Oh on the job front: I called the lady at the employment office back and told her I had to be somewhere on the 27th (the job starts on Nov. 25th). She put me on hold for a minute and then said she talked to her supervisor and that it would count against me as a absence and that they had a attendance policy and to try to not miss anymore. I assured her it was only that day and that I wouldn't miss anymore, because I honestly am not going to miss anymore. She said to tell my supervisor on the first day and that it would help.

That's all for now. I think I am going to try to email someone in the financial department of the university. I emailed the lady I was speaking to who handles all the stuff about veterans benefits, but she didn't really answer my questions. I'll keep yall updated.

-rani

About the job

So, it's been a while since I've posted something on here. It's been a little over a week, I believe. Last time I posted something on here was the day before the job interview. *SIGH* I did not get the job. I am so terribly sad about that. I can't believe it. I mean, the interview went well and everything but... Well, I should explain what happened at the end. The manager took me to the front and took out a navy blazer and told me to put together items that I would recommend to a customer who was buying that navy blazer. So, I did. I didn't do a bad job either because the manager came back and said, "good job." But then as soon as he finished he went like, "well, it was nice to meet you" (awkward silence) "if anything comes up, I'll give you a call." And that was it. I mean, he might as well have told me: "get the hell out of my store." I felt so bad. I knew he wasn't going to call me and I felt so stupid. I honestly think that the only reason why he interviewed me (I thought about this after) was so that he can comply with the equal opportunity law thingy. I mean, he interviewed a girl and that's that. All his workers are men, so... *sigh* Whatever.

I guess I will try to call Blockbuster later on today or tomorrow when I'm on my way back to North Carolina. I hope I get that job. That's the job I really want and I really need it. Man, let me call them now to see what they say. I will update on what they say later.

Other than that, everything has been ok. I did a speech last week for my Public Speaking class and that same night I had some HW due for my online class and I was never able to finish the second half on time. So, I only got a 50 out of 100. Wow, I need to get with it if I want to get accepted to NYU.

Ok, that's it for now.

Have a good Monday!

--Zul

The Good, The Bad, and The Whatever...

Alright. Let's start with the bigger news, which is the good and the bad. I was woken up and told that someone from Swiss Colony (where I applied for a seasonal job) called and said she was offering me the job and to call her back before 4:30 p.m. I called her a couple of times before she was finally at her desk. The good news is that not only did I get the job, but I also got 2nd shift (5 p.m. to 1 a.m.) which means 50 cents more an hour. Bad news is.... it doesn't start till November 25th! I was expecting for at least two months of work. The job usually lasts until the end of December which means I'm good if I get one. Dissapointing, but I do have some work coming up which I am happy about I just wish it was for a little longer. You take what you can get, right?

Now to the "whatever" part of the post. It seemed all I have been doing is waiting. I was waiting to hear about the job, which happily after today I don't have to, and I was waiting to hear back from the college. I had sent to my high school and my two previous colleges for transcripts to be sent and it seemed to have been about two weeks. I emailed the college to see if my application file was complete. They have received my high school transcript and once from a college. So, the hold up is the one from Grantham University. If you are reading this I am officially stating that I do NOT recommend Grantham University. They are very unprofessional. I had a very bad experience with them and the fact that they are the reason why the college has not already started the transfer credit evaluation adds to the low opinion I have of them.

Oh back to the job part. There was an add in the paper for a job fair with Swiss Colony at the end of this month. The ad said that there is a perfect attendance wage bonus for a stretch in December for $2.00 mor an dhour. So, of course I don't plan to miss any of those dates. Oh No! I just realized something. The job starts on November 25th. Not only is that the day before Thanksgiving, which mean I'm prolly going to have to work that day, but the 27th is the day of the concert!. I'm sure it does not speak well of me to miss the third day of work. What am I going to do!? I already have the ticket and I really need it. I also really need the job. What do I do? On the first day tell them I cant work on the 27th? I don't think I could call in sick.... Why in the hell couldn't they start on the Monday instead of some random Wednesday, one day before Thanksgiving and two days before the concert? I've never heard of such a thing. I thought they would have sold stuff for Thanksgivingtoo.

I have no idea what to do right now. See I can be happy for a momen, but I'm never allowed to stay that way.

-rani

Job interview tomorrow!

OMG, so tomorrow's the job interview. I'm so excited, you don't even know. I hope I get this job so badly. I can't wait until tomorrow. I hope he doesn't hold it against me that I won't be able to start working until Friday the 16th. The only reason why I can't work until then is because I can only work on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at any time or Mondays after 1PM. And from this Friday until the Tuesday after that (no school on Fridays plus that Monday and Tuesday there's no school because of Fall Break) I'm going to be going to CT to visit my mom. Mini road trip, yayyy! My mom just moved to CT about a month ago because my parents and I are in the process of moving back up north. This time to CT. We used to live in MA, so... we're somewhat used to the cold already. And things up north are way different than in the south and we've missed it. So, I'm glad. Yeah, so I get to move to CT before going to NY with Rani. Cool.

Anyways, that is all. Tomorrow I will update on the whole job thing and on how the interview went.

You guys have an awesome night.

Bye.

--Zul

College applications, transcripts and something about the measles and rubella

I finally got the information that I asked from Capital Community College in Hartford. Gosh, it took them forever to finally mail me the information on what I need to do to apply. It's stupid because according to the website and even when I called the lady told me that a student can only apply online at certain times of the year. I was like, "what the hell's the point of that?" Whatever. So, I got the application and whatnot and I've got to fill it out and send it back to them. I also need to call up all the colleges and my high school to get my transcripts sent to them. Uggh, what a hassle. Ohh, well. It must be done.

I also have to send them a form that my doctor needs to fill out, something about rubella and the measles. I was like what? Whatever, I guess they're trying to protect their students, so, it's a good thing. I know I'd like to be protected from other students if they had it. So, it's all good. But, the thing is that yesterday I went to the doctor and I brought the paper for her to fill it out and I totally forgot about it until I got home. I was like NO! So, that was that. Then I called and they were like, "well, you have to come back and she'll fill it out if she's not too busy." So I've got to do that on Monday, sometime.

Another thing which I MUST update on is that I got a job interview on Monday with Jos A. Bank. I am so excited, you don't even know. I hope that I get the job even though I will have to cover up the tattoo on my neck and the ones on my wrists if I do get the job. Plus, I will have to take out my labret if I get the job as well, so that's going to be a hassle. But, I'll be getting paid and I will be saving up some money for when Rani comes over, so that's good. I just hope it's ok with him that I'll be going to Connecticut next weekend because if not, I don't know what I might do. I do want the job but I really do want to go to Connecticut to hang out with my mom. I mean, my birthday is on Wednesday and we'll be hanging out all weekend for my birthday: my mom, my dad and moi. It would be terrible if I couldn't go. Ohh, well; let's see what happens.

That's all I've got to say for now. I hope you all have an awesome Saturday.

Bye.

--Zul

PS I got news from my oldest sister that I'm going to be an aunt again for the third time. Yay! I'm so ecstatic, you don't even know. So, congrats to her and her hubby. <3

Accounting exam grade

I went to accounting class and got my exam back. NYU, here I come.

--Zul

Eligibility

I have an update regarding my eligibility for the education benefits my dad could transfer to me through the G.I. Bill. I am not listed as one of his dependents anymore, because I turned 21... but I there is still a way I can get them. I have to have a letter from the school with its letterhead and all stating that I am enrolled as a full time student there at the college. Then I should be listed again and we can go ahead with the transfer.

It just seems one thing after the other. One more thing I have to do. Getting to doing the courses part just seems farther and farther away. I really want to start soon, so I can have a semester down, so I won't have to wait till spring top start, but that's almost what it is looking like. Well maybe not. All my transcripts should be sent now and if they haven't been received yet they should be soon. I just don't know if an acceptance letter is what they want or to have a letter sent to me after I register for classes. It's probably the latter, because only then will I be considered a full time student. Right?

So I suppose it's mostly good news. I can and will get the benfits. I just have to go through more doors again. I swear after this if there is another problem with this..... oh well I have too much time invested with it now I suppose. It should get done this time. I just have to do more waiting. I have to wait to hear from the college and then we'll figure it out and go get me back in the system. After that my dad can do his part of the paperwork and after waiting a week or so (yes people more waiting) I can do my part which will take about six to eight weeks I believe. That's a lot of time right, but the college said that I could already enroll and I won't get billed or whatever until the benefits come through.

All is not lost with this. It's just a big waiting game. All I know is this better be the last thing we have to do and the last problem we encounter with it. Otherwise I'm gonna have to go whoop some butt.

Happy October 1st

-rani

Behind and Closed Doors

I'm behind Zul on posts lol, but she has more going on than I do. Well that's not true, I guess I just have a little more frustrating things going on.

My father is in the military and with the new G.I. Bill thing they just made would allow him to transfer his education benefits to his dependents. When he went to fill out the form to give authorization for them to be transferred, so I could apply for it, my name was not listed as one of his dependents! It doesn't make a lot of sense. It says that his children dependents (as opposed to his spouse dependent) can use the benefits until they reach the age of 26. I just turned 21. He was supposed to talk with someone today to figure the whole thing out. He will be home in a couple of hours, so we'll see what happens. If I can't get the benefits I will have to finally break down and get a loan. I have tried everything to avoid it. I really don't like the idea of spending what I don't have and then I'll have it hanging over me while I'm trying to get an education. I know a lot of people do it, but I just have this thing about it.

Anyways, on a good note and completely non-new york related I have a front row seat to see the Cranberries concert in November. I am pretty excited about it. I kinda need it too. I never do anything and with all the stress from trying to get into college and get money for it, but getting doors closed in my face that I have to try to pry open... I really do need it.

On the job front, I haven't heard anything from Swiss Colony yet. I don't know if I should call though. You usually call after the application and then set up an interview, but I was asked to stay for the interview. The job doesn't start till possibly the end of October beginning of November. They weren't real specific. I should hear from them soon and hopefully I get the job. I should they need a lot of people and I did well on the dexterity test I had to do. I did above the benchmark. I don't know though. My old Irish luck is failing me right now. Something just better start working out soon, before I get too disheartened.

Later,
-rani

Exams, exams ...and NYU

So, ok. Today I had an exam in my accounting class. I am absolutely sure that I got an A on that exam and I really need it. Accounting is not as easy as I thought it was going to be when I first started the course but I am pretty sure that I got a good grade on it. I was somewhat scared to take it because earlier today, while I was doing my homework for the class, I was freaking out because I knew how to get the answers another way but I needed to get the answers in a SPECIFIC way. But, when I took the exam everything balanced out and all was good. So, yeah. I'm happy about that. I will update on how I really did on the exam later, I guess.

But, seriously... I really need to pass all my classes with A's because Rani and I have decided that we are going to go to NYU, provided that we get accepted. We really want to go so in order to do that we need to get ALL A's and I mean ALL A's in ALL of our classes. They don't play, seriously. And I don't intend on not getting accepted to that university. I seriously have to because that's the only university that I know that has the major that I want to go into: Spanish Literature.

Anyways, I think that is the only update I have for now. That will be all. Take care of yourselves and it will be until next time.

--Zul

Between jobs and calls

So, ok. Today has been a regular day even though it was somewhat hectic. I had to make some phone calls and such in regards to getting to NY, etc. I made the first phone call before my 11AM class and it was to Blockbuster, where I put in an application last Tuesday so that I could find a job from now until late December/early January. The manager was actually kind of rude when she answered the phone and she told me that she hasn't finished checking out all the applications and that she's still pulling out applications from the system or something like that. She said by the end of the week or at the latest sometime next week she would be calling people to set up some interviews. Yadda, yadda.

I also put an application at Jos A. Bank and I'm also going to put one at Harris Teeter, a supermarket that we have in the area. I just hope that I get a job because I need that money so that when Rani comes to visit I will be able to go with her to hang out in New York. I mean, we're going either way but I just need money because we would really like to be able to stay at a hotel there. And being that we're kind of crazy and have never really stayed at an awesome four or five-star hotel, we're thinking of staying at the Warldorf Astoria. That would be really cool. We're also thinking of going to Boston, where I used to live for 10 years, and I'm going to show her the city. But, in order for that to happen I need a job. So, I hope I get a call-back from one of those places. Let's see what happens. Anyways, that was it for that.

The next phone call I made was to the condos where we would like to move to. Someone had mentioned to Rani that in order to move to New York a person would have to put his or her name on the waiting list for the apartment that he or she wanted to move into now. We were like, "What!?" So, we decided to call and find out. And I did. I felt like I got nothing accomplished though because the man who picked up was like, "Well, we can't predict what will happen tomorrow. You would have to call 45 days before moving in." I was like, "Great. Way to go, dude. You totally helped me." I was being sarcastic obviously. Whatever. So, I take it that obviously there isn't a waiting list? I don't know. I hope not. I hope that when we decide to finally move there will be a place for us to move to in those condos because Rani and I really liked them. Well, at least we liked them from the pictures that we saw online. But, Rani told me something that made me feel a little bit better about the whole situation. "If the condos were listed in apartments.com, wouldn't that mean that they are available?" I mean, that makes sense. So, we just have to make sure that we move to NY at the perfect time and when there are condos available because seriously... those condos are perfect. At least from what we saw in the pictures and the descriptions and whatnot. Maybe when Rani comes to visit me in Connecticut in January we might set some time aside to look around. Maybe. I don't know yet.

And those are all the updates I have for right now. I really hope I get a call-back from one of those places about a job. I will update on that later.

Anyways, until next time... take care.

--Zul

Hi to All : )

So, my good friend and future roommate Zul pretty much covered all the basics with her first post. We did meet on Blogtv and eventually became friends. We started talking more and more and she brought up the idea of being roommates. I said okay, but didn't get my hopes up or anything.

We didn't really talk about it for awhile, but then one day she said we should pick a place. She mentioned several places, but the one that I had in my head was New York. A couple of weeks ago I mentioned about where in New York we should settle in and a friend of ours mentioned places that were okay for us to live. Zul looked up to see what the rent was going to be like, so we could figure out what we needed to be making salary/wage wise to live there. As luck would have it, the first place she clicked on we feel in love with and the location was perfect for us, so we got excited and started figuring out when we could move there. We knew not right away, but with in the next two years we believe we could do it.

The biggest reason for not moving sooner is education. She is currently working towards an associates and I am trying to get back in school to work towards my bachelors. I will be doing online courses so it won't be a problem when we move. We are going to wait until she is done with her associates to move, so she won't have to transfer again and will have a degree to help with getting a job there. Plus, we both want to have jobs and save a lot before we move. After the new year I want to find a job in Madison (the capitol of Wisconsin) at a hotel or something. We figured hotels were perfect because they transfer. I do need a job for the next couple of months though, so I put in for a job at Swiss Colony here in Wisconsin where I currently live. It is only a seasonal job, but it is exactly what I need.

I want to go to visit Zul in January. She will be in Connecticut, so we will hang there, but we also want to visit New York and visit a mutual friend we have. Hopefully we can get a glimpse of where we want to live. I just hope everything works out. I am sure we will get along great. It's just better safe than sorry to stay with someone for a week that you are going to be roommates with. If you can live together for a week with no problem then you definitely have a better chance of making it as roommates. But as I said, I am sure there won't be a problem with that. We already get along great and have enough in common where we can have fun but aren't so alike where we would get on each others nerves. I can't wait to visit her!

-rani

How it all began

Wow, so, ok... how do I even start? I guess I'll start with how I met Rani. It was almost a year ago. Wow... it was exactly a year ago in about two weeks. It was the weekend after my birthday of last year and my birthday is on October 7th, so yeah... But, that weekend I finally decided to check out Whoners' show on BlogTV, this website where people broadcast and whatever. Well, back then there were only like thirty some-odd people in there and it wasn't as crazy as it is now. But, yeah. I met Rani that week. At the beginning I wasn't really close with anyone but then I started to get closer to Rani, especially when around February/March of this year I got sick and I actually broadcasted on BlogTV with a PICC line coming out of my arm and she would be the only one who would put up with my stupidity. She even saw my mom live in her Christmas pajamas, lol. It was funny.

Since then, Rani and I have become closer and we realized that we are kind way too similar without it getting annoying for either of us. So, yeah...

Fast forward...

Well, the idea for Rani and I to become roommates came about two months ago or so when all of a sudden it came to me. I was like, "Wow. It'd be cool if Rani and I were roommates." So, I asked her. Of course I was like, "Well, she might say no." I thought she would be like one of our friends, Jojo, whom we both met at Whoners' show on BlogTV. Jojo doesn't like meeting people from online so I thought Rani'd be the same and say no. But, she agreed and I was like cool. And we didn't really talk about it a lot for about a month after that because, well... it was more like sort of a joke and we weren't really going to plan it all out or whatnot.

But then after I mentioned about becoming roommates, for some reason, Rani and I would talk on MSN like every single day. Seriously, we still do. We're such dorks that we talk on MSN everyday and even though we do that we write these long emails to each other. It's crazy. I mean, we could just tell each other whatever on MSN yet we decide to also write emails. We're nuts.

So, yeah... we had been writing each other on MSN like everyday and we even talked on Skype frequently. And then it happened! One night, I think it was Rani who mentioned it, she said something like... "So, is this thing about moving in together really going to happen?" Wow, I remember that conversation. Our friend Adrian was in it; we met him at Whoners' show on BlogTV, too. Well, I was like sure. I mean, we had somewhat been talking about moving in together more seriously before that conversation and we even had it down to NY, Boston, Atlanta and Miami. I mentioned Boston, Atlanta and Miami and Rani had mentioned NY. So, I was like, "Yeah, sure." So, I told her that we would look for apartments just to see the prices and whatnot. So, we started with NY. I am so happy that we started with NY because I absolutely fell in love with one of the apartments that I found. When Rani saw it, we knew that that was the place where we want to live in when we get to NY.

But, in order to figure out exactly where in NY to start looking for apartments... well, we asked Adrian for where we could find cheap but good places to live. So, that's when we decided on the Bronx when we saw like THE cutest apartments ever. So, then Adrian left the conversation and we sort of planned everything like cost of living and how much we would need to be paid an hour on a 40 hour week and whatnot. That night we decided that we would do the move as soon as August of 2010.

But then the next day, after I had time to think about it, I told Rani that I really wanted to finish at least my Associates so that when I moved to NY I could be getting paid better money, whatever. So, then we started talking about schools in NY and if I was going to finish college and whatnot. And we decided that I would eventually go to NYU, provided I get accepted, because that's the only school that has my major (Spanish Literature).

So, it's settled. Rani and I are moving to NY and we decided it would be in approximately a year and a half or something like that. Right now I am in North Carolina and I will be here until sometime in December. I am currently in the process of moving to Connecticut for that year and a half and sometime this January Rani is going to visit me up there. When she comes to visit we are going to NY, where our friend Bruce (Whoners) will show us around the city and we'll hang out with him or whatnot. It's going to be so much fun.

Either way, all this has been decided. We are so excited. I know Rani's really excited and as for me, well, I'm ecstatic. We have decided that we need jobs if she is going to be able to come visit me in Connecticut in January, so... yeah. She already had an interview and she is currently waiting for them to call her back. I applied to Blockbuster last Tuesday and well, a job is a job. I will call them tomorrow to see about the status of the application.

That is all for now. Wow, that was a lot. Ohh, well.

Anyways, until next time... take care.

--Zul
